A detection is not a visit
One person can appear in hundreds of frames, pause in a doorway or walk back out. Counting detections inflates activity. Inbound counting instead follows a confirmed person track across two zones in a defined order.
Give each entrance a direction
Place zone A on the approach and zone B on the inside. The counter uses observed current-zone membership, not the unordered list of zones visited during an event. A-to-B within the configured transition window counts; B-to-A does not.
Walk the real path
Test at normal walking speed in both directions, then test two people close together. Inspect where the bottom-center of the person’s bounding box falls. Camera angle, occlusion, lighting and partial-body views can all affect whether a crossing is observed.
Know the limits
The pilot counts a tracked person once per line. A new track can count again. Missed event messages during an outage are not guaranteed to replay, so these totals are operational indicators—not certified attendance, occupancy or life-safety data.
Make it useful
Compare activity patterns with your team’s experience. Use the count to ask better staffing and flow questions, then validate the interpretation in the real location.
